Worship

I appeal to you, therefore, brothers and sisters, by the mercies of God; to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God; which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world; but be transformed by the renewing of your minds, so that you may discern what is the will of God--what is good and acceptable and perfect.

-- Romans 12:1-2

Worship is the practice of being in and responding to the presence of God. It is a human response to a divine initiative. It is hearing the Holy in silence. It is opening our mind, body, and soul to the healing of the Spirit. It is daring to know as we are known, incomplete yet made whole by grace through faith. It is communion with the great cloud of witnesses who call us boldly into the world.

A Mid-Week Service of Word and Sacrament

Bond Chapel
The University of Chicago

Wednesday Evenings
9:00 p.m.

The order of worship opens with the act of contemplative prayer, a pause in the midst of the week to be centered in the divine. The Scripture lessons and pastoral meditations focus on the themes of Jubilee. The Lord's Supper is celebrated in the tradition of the open table to which all of God's children are invited. Students are encouraged to contribute their creative witness to the liturgy. All who are interested in sharing leadership in worship are invited to contact the Campus Minister.
