If then there is any
encouragement in Christ, any consolation from love, any sharing in the
Spirit, any compassion and sympathy, make my joy complete: be of the
same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind. Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility regard
others as better than yourselves. Let each of you look not to your
own interest, but to the interest of others. Let the same mind be
in you that was in Christ.
Prayer and study, meditation and
critical analysis, faith and reason, disciples of heart and mind. The spiritual life is holding a balance, indeed a dialogue, between the
two. It is an alternative way of knowing. It is the practice
of integrating being and doing. It is an ongoing conversation
among our personal experience, the witness of others quite different
from us, and the wisdom of the sacred tradition.
“Proclaim
Jubilee”: Study Theme
The Biblical tradition of
Jubilee is a time to enjoy and repair the blessedness of creation, to
forgive debts, to release captives, to restore justice and to celebrate
renewal. Jesus drew on the Jubilee tradition in his teachings
about the realm of God found in the parables and Lord’s Prayer.
His practice of open table fellowship and healing the sick also reflect
his intention for restoring persons to the community.
Students meet weekly for Bible study and theological reflection
on call for Jubilee justice. During the Autumn quarter,
the focus will be on the Jubilee campaign. In the
Winter quarter, the focus will be on issues of restorative
justice. In the Spring quarter, feeding the hungry
with support for the annual Mid-South Hunger Walk will
be the focus.
(When set, the schedule of
study groups will be sited here.)
Mid-Winter Spiritual Life Retreat
January 14-16
Join other student Christians
for a weekend of fellowship, recreation, and spiritual renewal.
Faithful engagement in the world is sustained and informed by prayerful
discernment of the leading of the Spirit. This annual retreat is
an occasion for students to be introduced to various prayer practices as
well as a time away with faithful friends.
